Academic Structure Configuration

The Academic Structure defines the curriculum hierarchy and progression paths for students. It maps out the "stages" of learning provided by your institution.

Hierarchy Tiers

EducaSphere uses a highly configurable three-tier model:

1. Education Cycles

These are the broad phases of education.

  • Examples: Early Years, Primary, Secondary, Undergraduate, Postgraduate.
  • Attributes: Tracks the standard Age Range (Min/Max) for each cycle.

2. Programmes

Specific courses of study or tracks within a cycle.

  • Examples: National Curriculum, International Baccalaureate (IB), Engineering Track.
  • Attributes:
    • Duration: Number of years required to complete.
    • Credit Hours: For tertiary institutions, the total credits needed for certification.

3. Education Levels

The individual "Grades" or "Years" within a programme.

  • Attributes:
    • Sequence Number: The numerical order of the level (Critical for promotions).
    • Programme Eligibility: Toggles if this level allows for specialized programmes.

Progression Logic

The Sequence Number on Education Levels is the engine behind student advancement.

  • Level 1 flows into Level 2, and so on.
  • The system uses these sequences to suggest the "Next Level" during the end-of-year promotion cycle.

💡 Pro-Tips & Notes

Age Constraints

Setting an Age Range on Cycles and Levels acts as a safety check during student onboarding. The system will flag records where a student's age significantly deviates from the standard range.

Sort Order

Use the Sort Order attribute to control how cycles and levels appear in dropdown menus and reports. A lower number (e.g., 0 or 1) will appear at the top.

Programmes vs. Levels

A Programme defines what is being studied (the track), while a Level defines where the student is in that track (the grade). A student is typically enrolled in one Programme and one Level simultaneously.
